Devoted fans of the drama “You’re Beautiful” say that the show couldnot possibly be the same without its star Park Shin Hye. That may be whythe actress made a cameo appearance in the first episode of”FabulousBoys,” the Taiwanese version of the show that first aired May 12.
The original Korean series opens with Park Shin Hye’s character,novice nun Go Mi Nyu, rushing into a church service. Go Mi Nyu notices alittle girl watching the band Anjell on her phone. She tries to stopher but the attempt backfires and Anjell’s music winds up blaringthrough the church.
In the opening sequence of the Taiwanese version, Park Shin Hye isagain sitting in church but this time she is the one watching the bandon her phone.This time, novice nun Gao Mei Nu, played by Taiwanesemodel and actress Cheng Yu Xi, attempts to stop Park Shin Hye fromwatching the concert. But her efforts also backfire. As the phone skidsacross the church aisle, it disrupts the service.
”You’re Beautiful” was first shown in 2009. It starred Jang KeunSuk, FT Island’s Lee Hong Ki and CNBLue’s Jung Jong Hwa. The comedy isabout a nun who pretends to be her twin brother, Go Mi Nam, a new memberof the popular band Anjell. The band’s leader Hwang Tae Kyung, playedby JGS, takes an instant dislike to him/her and makes her impersonationeven more difficult. The show was a big hit in Korea and throughoutAsia. Fans were so enthusiastic about the drama’s music that they wantedthe singers to form a real band.
“Fabulous Boys,” the Taiwanese version of “You’re Beautiful,” starsJiro Wang as Huang Tai Qing, Hwang In Deok as Jiang Xin Yu and Evan Yoas Jeremy. In a recent interview, Jiro said his portrayal of thebad-tempered bandleader would not lose out to Jang Geun Suk’s characterHwang Tae Kyung.
A Japanese version, “Ikemen Desu Ne,” was filmed in 2011. Japanesesinger-turned actress Miori Takimoto took Park Shin Hye’s role, whileboy band Kis-My-Ft2′s Tamamori Yuta and Fujigaya Taisuke took the rolesplayed by Jang Geun Suk and Jung Yong Hwa. Boy band Hey!Say!JUMP’sYaotome Hikaru played Lee Hong Ki’s role.
Since appearing in “You’re Beautiful,” Park Shin Hye has starred in”Heartstrings” with “You’re Beautiful” co-star Jung Yong Hwa andin”Flower Boys Next Door” with Yoon Shi Yoon. Her next role will be thedrama “The Heirs.” Her co-star will be Lee Min Ho.
