131010 Actress Clara Says Controversy Over Whether She Lied In TV Interviews Made Her Afraid To Show Up On Set

The 27-year-old South Korean actress and model Clara paid a price for providing different answers in several television talk show appearances, back in the spring.

The 27-year-old South Korean actress and model Clara paid a price for providing different answers in several television talk show appearances back in the spring.

When several online observers began pointing out the discrepancies in Clara’s answers in interviews over the years, they set off a vitriolic Internet movement, saying that the actress, whose real name is Lee Seong Min, was a liar.

In the premiere episode of her new reality show “Clara’s Like A Virgin” on Tuesday, she described how the accusations of lying disturbed her so deeply she was afraid to show up on set.

“The controversy continued for about three months. Every week felt like a year. It got to the point that I was scared to go to filming locations.” Clara said.

“The other cast members all supported me, but that just made me more clueless about what to do. I wondered if it was all right for me to smile.”

The star of the 2013 television drama “Goddess of Marriage” recalled the deep contemplation that the rumors forced on her.

“I only had the desire to be alone,” Clara said.

“I realized that I had been the only one excited by the people’s love. I don’t know why I always wanted to do well. Nevertheless, I worry whether the public will get to like me if I were to say I see myself as I am.”

Yet anti-fan Claudia believes Clara deserves more online torment.

“Now Clara, we have the right to talk bad about her, since she thinks she’s better than anyone from K-pop,” Claudia wrote in the comments section of the actress’s profile on the website Asianwiki on Thursday.

“She lied to everyone to everyone to like her, she thinks that Korean fans are stupid. Even comedians talk about her, [saying] ‘stop lying, Clara.’”

“If she lied to you…would you like it?” Claudia asked.

“You would be embarrassed, because she doesn’t think about another people’s feelings, but only about her image…please, let us be anti-fans, losers.”

Clara’s alleged lies include telling the host of the program “God of Food Road” that she doesn’t like chicken and beer and then expressing her love for the classic bar food pairing on an episode of “Cultwo Show” and claiming she didn’t know how to do yoga on the show “Happy Together 3,” after demonstrating yoga poses in the past on the shows “Vitamin” and “Reckless Family.”

The actress was also observed giving different answers regarding her social life, stating on “One in Fantasy” that she had never dated a celebrity, before revealing on the program “Radio Star” that a famous former boyfriend had become obsessed with her, according to the website allkpop.

In a September 10 Facebook post that has since been taken down, Clara deactivated both her Facebook and Twitter accounts last month, the actress told her critics to lighten up.

“I did variety [shows] that put humor as a priority,” Clara wrote.

“It wasn’t a documentary that [ensured] honesty. I would understand if you said that I was not funny [in my appearances],”

She then proceeded to launch into specific responses regarding several of the alleged examples of her lying.

“I don’t like chicken and beer, but is it a lie to say I like it between good friends in a good atmosphere?” she asked.

“If I’ve never learned yoga but I’m good at it, is that a lie? If I have dated a celebrity before, but didn’t want to say and said I didn’t date one, is that a lie?”

“My real name is Clara Lee,” the star added.

“I was born in Switzerland, I was educated in the US, and my citizenship is in England. Just like you all have said, maybe I don’t know the Korean sentiment. So I will work very, very hard to learn and fix it. I think you can hate me and you can leave mean comments and curse at me. However, just because things are different, don’t say it’s wrong.”

Ever since the film hit theaters on September 11, it has gained over 8.8 million views and counting through October 8. Perhaps the smashing success of the film can be attributed to the acting talent of Song Kangho, Lee Jung Jae, Baek Yoon Sik, Kim Hye Soo, Lee Jong Suk and more.

It will be interesting to see how the large-to-small screen adaptation will look like, seeing as how it is a historical drama and will require much financial and creative investment. The production team is already at the height of their discussion about how “Physiognomy” will be a masterpiece of a historical drama with attention given to all the details of that era. The plot is expected to be more complex rather than include various stories.

131008 Broadcast Companies KBS, MBC, and SBS Reduce Variety Show and Drama Airtime

KBS, MBC, and SBS have all agreed to reduce both drama and variety show airing times by five minutes.

On October 7, a representative of the three broadcasting companies stated the broadcasting companies had agreed that starting from October 21, drama airtmes will be reduced from 72 minutes to 67 minutes, while variety show airtimes will be reduced from 80 minutes to 75 minutes.

KBS’s drama production director Lee Kang Hyun commented, “Organization representatives of all three broadcasting companies have agreed that starting from October 21, drama airtimes will be reduced to 67 minutes.”

Previously in 2008, the three broadcasting companies had agreed to have dramas air for 72 minutes to prevent excessive competition.

Although five years ago the airtime agreement was for the prevention of excessive competition, the agreement this time around occurred for the improvement of the production environment, and because of the diminishing commercial market.

Director Lee stated, “Lately, drama production has become labor intensive, and the commercial market has not be fairing well. Currently, as dramas have an airtime of 80 minutes including commercial time, the number of dramas unable to sell all of its commercials slots is increasing.”

He continued, “The goal of agreeing to 67 minutes of broadcast time is for the production environment to transform into a more humane setting and to also help with the reduction of drama production fees.”

Even the weekly late night variety shows that air at 11 PM are not exempt from the broadcast time reduction.

A high ranking official of KBS’ variety show department revealed, “Variety shows that air on Monday through Thursday will also see a reduction of broadcast time to 75 minutes starting on October 21.”

The official further elaborated, “Previously, variety shows usually aired for 80 minutes, and sometimes we would extend the broadcast time. However, taking into consideration the constant competitive components of the broadcasting field, the burden of the editing staff, filming concluding past midnight, as well as the burden of viewership were reasons enough to take these steps towards change.”

What do think about these changes, Soompiers? Do you think this will help the drama production environment in Korea?

On October 6, SBS’s variety program “Running Man” aired an episode featuring Park Shin Hye, Choi Jin Hyuk, and Kim Woo Bin, a few actors from upcoming drama “The Heirs.”

“Running Man” members and the actors were split up into groups to play several rounds of games. During one of the games, Yoo Jae Suk looked at Kim Jong Kook, who was part of Song Ji Hyo’s team, and said, “Miss You [Yoon] Eun Hye yah.”

Mentioning actress Yoon Eun Hye around Kim Jong Kook has become a long running joke for celebrities participating in the variety world. The two were always tied together and had their special dating relationship on screen during variety program “X Men,” similar to what Song Ji Hyo and LeeSsang’s Gary share on “Running Man.” Not only Yoo Jae Suk, but Lee Hyori and a number of guests would randomly bring her name up since “Family Outing” days.
