130430 “Gu Family Book” Keeps The Lead In The Ratings

Yesterday’s ratings for the latest crop of Monday night dramas offerno surprises. Little has changed since last week except that the overallpercentage of viewers has declined.

The winner in the Monday night ratings race continues to be MBC’s “GuFamily Book,” but it leads the KBS series, “God of the Workplace” byonly a few points.

Although the fantasy saeguk “Gu Family Book” dropped from last week’sNielsen Media research score of 15.1 percent to this week’s 14.4percent, it still edges past “God of the Workplace” which drew only 14.0percent of the viewers.

Each of the shows lost a few percentage points in ratings.

More viewers may have turned in to “Gu Family Book” last week to seehow the delayed introduction of the stars Lee Seung Gi and miss A Suzy wouldshape the direction of the drama. Lee Seung Gi plays Choi Kang Chi, thehero, a half-mythical/half-human creature who wants to become morehuman. Suzy plays Dam Yeo Woo his fighting partner and love interest. The first few episodes told the story of how Choi Kang Chi’s parents met

“God of the Workplace,” the story of a super temp who impresses herworkplace superiors, is still going strong. “God of the Workplace” starsKim Hye Soo as super temp Miss Kim and Oh Ji Ho as Jang Kyu Jik, herworkplace superior.

The only obvious loser in this week’s ratings race is the SBS series”Jang Ok Jung.” The anticipated series has apparently not caught on withfans, despite its popular stars Kim Tae Hee and Yoo Ah In, the gorgeousperiod costumes and historical content. That drama only earned a 6.9percent rating yesterday.

No one is sure why the drama lags so far behind. It may be that dramafans have just seen the story of Jang Ok Jung one too many times, sincethere have been at least seven previous film and drama versions. Inthis drama version, Kim Tae Hee plays Jang ok Jung, the courtesanexecuted for plotting to poison Queen Inhyun. Yoo In Ah plays her lover, the King Suk Jong.

Netizen reactions to these three series have been mixed with no overwhelmingly obvious favorite.

Meanwhile, the ratings for the KBS drama, “Cheer Up, Mr. Kim”remained steady, earning 28.7 percent, while variety shows, KBS’”Hello,” earned 9.8 percent ratings and SBS’ “Healing Camp” earned 5.3percent.

130429 Park Shin Hye Takes a Leave of Absence from School

Park Shin Hye is known as a really hard worker. Even in her busy schedule, in which she barely gets three or four hours of sleep, she′s still managed to keep up with her schoolwork.

While most celebrities miss most of their classes due to their schedules, Park Shin Hye has shown her enthusiasm toward her studies by attending most of her classes. Thanks to this, she even earned herself a grade point average of over 3.0.

This semester, however, she had to turn in a leave of absence.

A rep from the actress′ agency S.A.L.T said, “Park Shin Hye had to turn in her leave of absence for this semester. She′s attended her classes, but she couldn′t help it this time. She′s also very sorry.”

Many reasons led her to make this decision. First of all, she is scheduled to tour other countries in an overseas fanmeeting tour. In March she′s held fanmeetings in Japan and the Philippines, while in April she was busy filming for Rock, Paper, Scissors of Love and in May she is due to appear in China for another fanmeeting.

Another reason is that though she can still make it to some classes and meet the minimum requirements for a grade, she didn′t want to do it that way. She wanted to study properly when she had time for it.

Park Shin Hye entered Chung-Ang University in 2008, and is currently in her fourth year. Though she did take a leave of absence once before, she managed to attend her classes and do all of her schoolwork just like any other student during the rest of her time in school.

In an interview with enews held in February, she had said with a laugh, “Since I work so hard not to miss any classes, my agency hates it.”

She had also said, “I think I′ll have to graduate soon for my juniors. I need to write my thesis and I have an Asia tour coming up, but I′m very attached to my studies. I want to graduate properly.”

Following her leave of absence, Park Shin Hye is currently spending her time practicing her skills on the piano for her upcoming China fanmeeting in May.
