130529 Korea’s Ultimate Entertainer Lee Seung Gi Flaunts Singer Side For “Gu Family Book” OST
The talented Lee Seung Gi is not only the star of the popular drama,”Gu Family Book,” but this week the singer-turned-actor contributed asweet romantic ballad to the soundtrack. It’s a song that he co-wrote,composed and produced.
The song, “The Last Word” is a ballad expressing the love felt by hischaracter Choi Kang Chi for his loyal friend and love interest, Dam YeoWool, played by Suzy Bae. Choi Kang Chi is a half-human, half-mythicalcreature. Despite the occasional appearance of his claws, Dam Yeo Woolstands by him and fights by his side. So, not only does the balladexpress the growing love Choi Kang Chi feels for her, but also hisgratitude for her loyalty in the face of his often terrifying truenature. Thanks to an interesting storyline and strong performances bythe two lead actors, the series has been a ratings winner since itstarted, consistently leading in its time slot.
Lee Seung Gi worked on the song with Double Kick Project, which hasalready created several hit songs, including Sistar’s “Loving You,”Leessang’s “Teardrop” and Davichi’s “Tortoise.” There are two versionsof “The Last Word.” One is instrumental and the other version featuresLee Seung Gi singing. The song will be featured in this week’s episodes.It has also been released on the Loen Entertainment official Youtubechannel.
Also included on the drama’s OST are Yisabel singing “My Eden,” LeeSang Gon of Noel singing “Love Hurts” and Lee Ji Young of Big Mamasinging “Love is Blowing.”
Lee Seung Gi made his official singing debut at age 17 with theballad “Because You’re My Girl.” The song, about a young man in lovewith an older woman, won him a “Best Newcomer” award at various musicceremonies.
In 2009 he released a single, “Will You Marry Me,” which earned him a”Digital Single Bonsang” award. He recorded a duet version of his song”Smile Boy” with figure skater Kim Yuna and it became the official 2010FIFA World Cup song.
His most recent album is “Forest.” One of the album’s songs,”Return,” topped several music charts for a few weeks in a row and setthe record for being number one for six consecutive weeks on Billboard’sK-Pop Hot 100.
